Are you a passionate and experienced Maternal and Child Health Nurse looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families? Nillumbik Shire Council is seeking a Maternal and Child Health Nurse to provide specialised support to vulnerable families and promote the health, development and wellbeing of children from birth to six years of age.

This rewarding position combines 0.4 EFT Enhanced Maternal and Child Health and 0.4 EFT Universal Maternal and Child Health responsibilities, offering the opportunity to work across both preventative and targeted service streams.

A typical day might include:

  • Deliver high-quality Maternal and Child Health services
  • Provide timely, responsive and intensive home-based Enhanced Maternal and Child Health support to vulnerable children and families.
  • Triage, prioritise and manage Enhanced MCH referrals to ensure families receive appropriate interventions and support when needed.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of child growth, development, health and wellbeing, using evidence-based tools and frameworks.
  • Identify and support parents experiencing increased vulnerability, including postnatal mental health concerns, family violence, disability or child wellbeing risks, and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Develop and implement Family Action Plans, working collaboratively with families to identify goals and strengthen parenting capacity using a Family Partnership Model and strengths-based approach.
  • Deliver health promotion and education on key issues including breastfeeding, sleep and settling, injury prevention, oral health, infant mental health and family wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with internal and external service providers to ensure coordinated care, while applying current research and best practice principles to continuously improve service delivery.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Extensive and varied experience as a Maternal Child Health Nurse
  • Experience and strong knowledge of child health, development, and behaviour, along with an understanding of contemporary family issues, and the ability and confidence to engage additional support services when needed
  • Experience in engaging, developing and maintaining working relationships with families, service providers and the wider community
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Office, with the ability to adapt to a new MCH database system
  • Proven ability to manage tasks efficiently through strong organisational skills
  • Capable of maintaining accurate records in accordance with the Department of Health standards and the Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Program Guidelines.
