Maternal and Child Health Nurse (Internal Applicants Only)

  • 2 x permanent part time position available (0.5 EFT)
  • Hourly rate of between $59.13 and $65.55 (dependant on experience) plus 12% super, annual leave loading and allowances

About the role:

Join our dedicated Maternal and Child Health (MCH) team and play a vital role in promoting the health, wellbeing and development of children from birth to school age.

As a Maternal and Child Health Nurse, you will apply your advanced nursing skills to deliver universal MCH services in line with the Department of Health Maternal and Child Health Service Standards (2019), Clinical Practice Guidelines (2019), and the Key Ages and Stages Framework (2009). You will work in partnership with families, using a strengths-based approach to support children's development and empower parents and carers.

A typical day might include:

  • Deliver the 10 Key Ages and Stages (KAS) consultations using evidence-based tools such as Parental Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS) and Brigance screening tools
  • Promote maternal health and wellbeing, identifying vulnerable mothers and facilitating appropriate referrals
  • Support families with children aged birth to six years using the Family Partnership Model and strength based approach
  • Provide health education and promotion to improve outcomes across areas including:
    • Postnatal depression (PND)
    • Family violence
    • Breastfeeding
    • Sleep and settling
    • Oral health and injury prevention
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by applying research and evidence to your clinical practice.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a general nurse and midwife
  • Victorian qualification in Family and Child Health or equivalent.
  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant qualifications and Level 2 First Aid (desirable)
  • Current Australian Driver's licence
  • Current Working with Children Check.
