Advocacy Advisor

Join our Advocacy Communications and Engagement team as Advocacy Advisor, where you will play a key role in delivering Council's advocacy priorities through high-quality communications, digital content, and stakeholder engagement. This role is responsible for supporting Council's brand reputation, community engagement, and advocacy efforts across internal and external channels.

What a typical day will look like;

  • Researching and developing high-quality, evidence-based advocacy materials aligned with Council's priorities
  • Coordinating the production of advocacy publications in collaboration with graphic design and digital teams
  • Maintaining and updating advocacy content on Council's website
  • Supporting Council's advocacy and lobbying efforts ahead of the 2026 State Government election
  • Identifying opportunities to promote Council's advocacy priorities and highlight the importance of their delivery
  • Planning and coordinating reporting on advocacy activities, outcomes, and government commitments
  • Supporting the Manager to identify emerging policy issues and position Council to proactively influence policy and funding outcomes

What you will bring to the role;

  • Demonstrated experience in developing evidence-based advocacy materials including proven ability to research, analyse and synthesise complex information to produce fact sheets, briefing notes, position papers and other advocacy collateral for diverse audiences, including government stakeholders.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills with excellent ability to write clear, persuasive and tailored communication materials across multiple channels, including reports, website content, strategic communications and ministerial briefs.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills to support effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to design, deliver and evaluate advocacy strategies that influence outcomes, support organisational priorities and align with political and policy environments.
  • Proven experience working collaboratively across teams and with external partners to progress shared advocacy priorities.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple advocacy projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, coordinate publication workflows, and deliver high-quality outputs with attention to detail.
  • Ability to build internal capacity for advocacy including experience in supporting organisational understanding of advocacy priorities and aligning internal projects with strategic agendas.
