Emergency Management and Engagement Officer (Internal Applicants Only)

Join the Emergency Management team as our Emergency Management and Engagement Officer, where you will play a vital role in delivering Council's emergency management objectives by leading projects and programs that strengthen community preparedness and resilience, while also overseeing Council's emergency management workforce to ensure training and compliance requirements are met in line with Council's workforce procedures.

What a typical day will look like;

  • Provide emergency management advice to Council, agency and community, taking account of local, regional and state-wide trends, advocacy and planning needs.
  • Proactively engage and contribute to the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) and associated sub-committees and working groups.
  • Oversee Council's emergency management workforce and ensure all training requirements are met in accordance with Council's workforce procedure guidelines.
  • Develop programs and liaise with the community to promote emergency preparedness and build emergency resilience.
  • Support other Council service units in identifying and mitigating Council's emergency management risks, including coordinating programs across the municipality.
  • Undertake the duties as the Municipal Emergency Management Officer (MEMO) if required.
  • Support the Emergency Management Unit in the delivery of its statutory and strategic emergency management objectives.

What you will bring to the role;

  • Develop and implement emergency management initiatives and projects across the municipality utilising effective engagement and consultation methods to ensure appropriate program outcomes
  • Proven track record of successfully contributing to local emergency management committees, enhancing collaboration across multiple agencies and stakeholders.
  • Ability to write specialist reports, policies and briefing papers. Highly developed emotional intelligence.
  • Develop programs and liaise with the community to promote emergency preparedness and build emergency resilience.
