Join our team as a Disability Inclusion Officer and help shape a more equitable and accessible Nillumbik. In this vital role, you'll work alongside people with disability, carers, service providers, community groups, and Council teams to embed inclusive initiatives and practices.
What a typical day will look like;
- Identifying, planning, implementing and evaluating initiatives that build community capacity and foster disability inclusion.
- Specialist advice on disability-related matters, contributing to inclusive policy development and project planning.
- Managing and promoting the annual Nillumbik International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) grant program.
- Complete project briefs, reports, policies and briefing papers for a variety of audiences, including Council.
- Facilitating the Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee, ensuring that that the voices of people with disability and carers are represented in Council planning, policies, strategies and programs.
- Developing the Disability Inclusion bi-monthly e-newsletter.
- Support the work of the broader Disability Inclusion and Volunteering team.
What you will bring to the role;
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Disability Studies, Community Development or a related field, and/or significant experience in the Community Services sector.
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring that that the voices of people with disability and carers are represented in Council planning, policies, strategies and programs.
- Demonstrated experience working with disability service providers, groups, people with disability and carers.
- Demonstrated experience in community development, including the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects that build community capacity and foster disability inclusion.
- Understanding of disability services systems and legislative requirements, including the NDIS, Victorian Disability Act 2006 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).
- Demonstrates creative and strategic thinking to develop initiatives that support people with a disability and carers, strengthen community capacity, and foster sustainable outcomes.
