School Crossing Supervisors

Help create a safer community by assisting school-aged children and other pedestrians in crossing roads at designated children's crossings and traffic lights. As a School Crossing Supervisor, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safety of our youngest road users. With both casual and part-time positions available, you'll be part of a dedicated team committed to fostering a secure and supportive environment for the youth of our community.

A typical day will include;

  • Supervision of children and vehicles at children's crossings and traffic lights during nominated hours on school days
  • Ensure that pedestrians crossing the road at the children's crossing or traffic lights do not unduly disrupt traffic flow
  • Maintain sensible road behaviour of children using the crossing
  • Ensure that all vehicles are stationary before allowing pedestrians access to the crossing
  • Report incidents and breaches of the Road Safety (Traffic) Regulations
  • Conduct inspections of the crossing and report fortnightly
  • Make recommendations to improve safety at children's crossings
  • Report identified hazards that may pose a risk to employees or the public

What you will bring to the role;

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and without supervision
  • Flexibility to travel to any crossing within the municipality and to attend training sessions as required
  • Valid employee Working with Children's Check
  • A high level of awareness and an ability to judge traffic flow
  • Ability to build a positive rapport with children, parents, school staff and the wider community
  • An understanding of Victorian road laws and regulations
